l’ami jean. bistro of the year. lives up to its name. a bit annoyed with the reservation problem.reserve for dinner @22.00(would like to have it earlier but couldn’t coz it was fully booked).arrived @ the restaurant n had to wait until 22.30 to be seated.like their service despite all that. the place was full n hectic but the staffs still managed to joke around. they offer tasting menu:2 entrees, 1 main , 3 desserts…3 DESSERTS??!!!!didn’t know what they will bring out(only the chef knew), but we wanted to be surprised. my friends n i immediately took the offer. everything was amazing. best bistro dessert i ever had, too bad can’t finish them all…
one my foodsnob101 and foodsnob102 teacher’s (i have 2 teachers, remember?) comment: “hmmm…we don’t know what we are eating, but it taste good….”

some people like to visit bars or pubs. others like to have coffees in cafes. i,for one, enjoy going to tea rooms. don’t really drink teas @ home coz i’m just lazy to brew them and they don’t taste the same as when you drink in tearooms.i’n no expert in brewing n  atmosphere contributes to the tea taste, especially when it has cute decors.

i went to l’oisive the. good choices of teas. cute little place. but the scone is expensive and taste so-so.

i got tea mangosteen…could taste the mangosteen flavour…

more food. decided to have something light for a change(yeah…right…). went to have soup in lebarasoupes. cute small soup bar. there was only one lady serving at that time. but she managed to keep her smile. i really like her.

there were 7 soupes to choose from, one of the is gaspacho type.  i went for the -carottes,gingembre,ananas- soupe. the lady asked me whether i wanted it cold or hot (another cold soup offered other than the gazpacho). it was quite a hot day n i would like to  have something refreshing, but my mouth processed faster than my brain. so i said “chaud”(regretted it when the lady already scooped a ladle of soup and asked me kindly to have a seat).a bit pessimistic of how the soup would taste like. i had my first spoon and liked it immediately. i thought probably be nicer cold, but having it hot was as good. could taste the sweetness from the carrots, the tanginess from the pineapple and the zing from the ginger.drool*

barasoupes

i tried to eat as clean as possible coz i pitied the lady working alone. but failed to do so…the poppy seed went evrywhere.but managed to tidy up before paying.

in conclusion, please….can i have some more…?

getting fond of salon de the. went to try -A Priori The- coz i heard that the cheesecake is good. it is located in Galerie Vivienne(a passage…lots of passages in paris n they are really beautiful.)

galerie viviennei decided to have lunch there as well. it was quite expensive, but worth the try. i had mixture of vermicelli, olives, prawn n chicken wrapped in bricks. had a twist of asian twist here.

priori the was quite full after de meal. but it wouldn’t be complete without trying the cheesecake(my mission of going to the salon de the-try cheesecake). didn’t think that my stomach could take it, i went for a demi-dessert.

cheesecakei really likes the sauce.it is ‘sans sucre'(without sugar)as they claimed. don’t know what a good cheesecake is, i think the cheesecake is quite good. creamy n i could finish it even though i war already full. mind you this is a demi-dessert,you should see the full one!

to accompany my meal n dessert, i had the tea -cerise de chine(sumthing like that). it has hint of cherries n rose. really good. it was a really chic lunch!

too hot…need…something…cold

the weather is getting warmer by the days…finally get to eat some ice cream.yay!

1st stop.damman's

i went for a walk @ le jardin des tuileries. didn’t plan to buy the ice cream at first. just wanted to take picture of the stand…but just couldn’t resist.

ice cream dammans

got the flavour:caramel au beurre sale. just OK…read somewhere that the yoghurt flavour is the best. remember to get that next time!

2nd stop

my berry

dropped a piece raspberry and a piece of mango along the way.not very happy…

frozen yoghurt is in trend now. in US, back in Indo. it starts to get popular here, i think… i decided to try myberry. it’s just below my house.so very convenient. they have only ooriginal flavour. don’t really know the standard of a good frozen yoghurt. but this one is good enough for me.

the legendary tartelette au citron

Posted in dates with M.Goût on May 25, 2009 by fenny widjaja

tartelette au citron

thanks to someone’s review i read somewhere, i got to try this amazing tartelette (info: tarte is big size while tartelette is individual size). not a fan of lemon curd, but this is really different. this picture tells evrything. look at the fork mark!!! it’s so inviting!!! not eggy n really smooth(maybe it used tons of butter..but like our chef said: “butter is good for you”). the tart shell is really crumbly….yummmm…..again, big applause to carl marletti. maybe i should open a fan club for him. or shud go to him n tell him that i’m his no.1 fan n i might get free cakes….

wagashi

Posted in dates with M.Goût on April 6, 2009 by fenny widjaja

finally i was able to try some wagashi….in paris….would like to try it in japan, but hasn’t got the chance to go there yet. wagashi is the traditional japanese sweets. they are not as heavy as western desserts.

a friend n i decided to go to toraya, one of the famous wagashi maker in japan according to my friend(he used to stay there for quite sometime). they don’t have many types of wagashi in-store…which is a bit unfortunate.

they have sakuramochi, definitely get that.again my friend explained to me that sakuramochi is seasonal n they only have it in spring.it is a pink glutinuous rice with adzuki bean paste filling and wrapped in preserved cherry blossom leaf. i also got the aoyagi, just white adzuki beans. they are a bit pricey. 3.90euros each.so i spent 7.80 in total for just 2 wagashi. but i don’t regret buying them.

the sakuramochi smells a bit like glutinuous rice+pandan leaves if i may say.n the cherry blossom leaf tasted likethe japanese preserved plums a bit sour n salty.i like it very much.the adzuki bean paste is very smooth…yum2…

the aoyagi is excellent as well. it is soft n stick to the back of the mouth..my favourite texture…
